The Four Ink Spots, [sic] are slated to open at the Copacabana late in July. This will be the first night club [sic] engagement for the ‘Spots’ since they’ve been in the big money… Kelley’s Stables is closed for housecleaning, (could the law be doing the chores?). In the mean time [sic], Stable management has taken over the Plantation and changed the name to Three Deuces. Entertainment is provided by George Auld’s Quartet, Ann Robinson, Willie Dukes and Sandra Lee. Bricktop closed to fill an engagement in Mexico… Billie Holiday says she is not joining McKinney’s Cotton Pickers. And she did give Frank Sinatra pointers in singing a few years back when managers of 52nd St., swing clubs were all for putting him out… Sgt. Jimmie Daniels, doing the town on what he considers his last night in town. We thrilled to the sound of his singing voice between scotch and sodas at Tony’s in 52nd St. Says he, “[T]his is heaven after eight months in an army camp in Florida.”… Porgy and Bess cast in town for a summer vacation to reopen in the fall.
